When the angels came to take you home
Did you beg to let you stay?
For who would take good care of us,
If you were gone away?
A man of courage and of strength
Your hands each line a story
How hard you worked, how much you gave
So we didn’t have to worry
He blessed you with a loving wife
And seven children too
He even gave them offspring
As he knew they would please you
You held us all in those strong hands
At times it seemed so tight
But you never could have kept us safe
If we were out of sight
He made you in his image
And your beauty it shone through
How else could you have loved so much
And we have loved you too
In life a man of many keys
A watchman for our Lord
Now exchanged for keys of heaven
And a body that’s restored
When our Saviour called out to you
Was Nana waiting at the gates?
What I’d do to see that meeting
And the look upon your face
Oh to touch you for one moment
To sit and laugh at times we’ve shared
My heart aches to sit and hold you
To let you know how much I cared
So when the angels came to take you home
Did you beg to let you stay?
Or did you run to see your sweetheart
As you knew He’d keep us safe?
